Having a procedure?

Local anaesthetic

For procedures under local anaesthetic only please ensure you have something to eat & drink prior to your appointment time. It helps to minimises anxiety as does listening to music! BYOD and headphones so you can listen to your music during the procedure. Local anaesthetic will not affect your ability to drive to and from your appointment.

IV sedation & local anaesthetic

Fasting instructions will be given at the time of making your procedural appointment. Sedation will affect your judgement for about 24 hours so it is important that you do not:

  • drive or operate machinery
  • drink alcohol
  • sign any legal documents
  • be responsible for the care of another individual
  • have an adult with you for the first 24 hours after your procedure

General anaesthesia

If you are attending a hospital for your surgery under general anaesthetic, you will be given instructions regarding when and where to attend, together with fasting instructions.

Time off work

This will depend on your health, the type of work you do & the procedure you are having performed. After most minor oral procedures you will be fine with 1 – 3 days however recovery following removal of wisdom teeth can take a few days longer. More significant surgery such as jaw surgery may require 2 weeks for recovery.
